Deborah Clapshaw

Deborah Clapshaw Deborah is an Auckland barrister working exclusively as a mediator in commercial and interpersonal disputes with 35 years experience in dispute resolution, the last 22 primarily as a mediator. She is recognized by Who’s Who as one of the world’s leading mediators and was named both in NBR and Lawfuel as in the top 10 commercial and family mediators in New Zealand.

In addition to her private mediation work, she is on a number of statutory mediation panels including the Weathertight Homes Resolution Service, Health and Disability Commissioner and the Domain Names Commission,  conducts employment mediations as a contractor to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and is an accredited Family Dispute provider.
She previously worked as a lawyer in both New Zealand and Hong Kong, taught Mediation and Dispute Resolution at Auckland University Law School for 10 years and sat as a member of the Human Rights Review Tribunal from 2003 until 2010. She is an Invited Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators, a Fellow, Disciplinary Tribunal and Mediation Panel member of AMINZ, an assessor for FDR providers for AMINZ and an Advanced Panel member  of the Resolution Institute. She has also held several Tribunal appointments which complemented her mediation practice.
